3-way calling and conference calls FAQs

3-way calling lets you talk with 2 people at the same time using your mobile phone. It's included with your Verizon service.

• If you have a plan with unlimited minutes: There's no additional charges to use 3-Way Calling.
• If you don't have unlimited minutes: Airtime and other charges will apply for both calls until you end one call. These charges may include toll or long distance charges. For example, if you talk for 10 minutes on a 3-way call, you'll be charged for 20 minutes of talk time.

If someone tries to call you while a 3-way call is in progress, most phones will let you answer the call and put your 3-way call on hold. If you don't answer, the incoming call will be sent to your voicemail.

Note: If you have an older phone or aren't using HD Voice, the caller will be automatically forwarded to your voicemail or hear a busy signal.

It varies by phone. Many newer phones using HD Voice can have up to 6 callers on a conference call. If your phone is capable, repeat steps 2–4 to add more people to your call.

Older phones can only have 3 callers on a conference call.

Note: If you don't have unlimited minutes on your plan, airtime and other charges apply for all calls (e.g., if you have 3 other people on your conference call and talk for 10 minutes, you'll be billed for 30 minutes).

Steps to start a 3-way call may vary by device. Refer to your phone's User Guide for device-specific instructions.

To start a 3-way call on most smartphones:

1. Call the first phone number and wait for the person to answer.
2. Tap Add call.
3. Call the second person.
   
   Note: The original call will be put on hold.
4. Tap Merge to begin your 3-way call.
   
   Note: If you'd rather speak to each caller separately, you can tap Swap to switch between the 2 calls.

When you're done, you can hang up to end the call for both callers.

Tap the conference call (or the (i) icon) at the top of the screen to see the list of callers. Tap Drop call or End call next to the person you want to disconnect from the 3-way call.

Or if one of the callers hangs up, you can continue speaking with the other caller.

Note: If you started the 3-way call and you disconnect, the call will end for all callers.

On many phones, you can. Answer the incoming call (which will put the original call on hold), and then tap Merge to combine the 2 calls into a 3-way call.

If your phone isn’t able to do that, you can switch between the 2 calls by tapping the Swap/Switch or Call icon.
